District 2 Update – November 2019

As the cooler weather continues, we have many wonderful opportunities to participate in local outdoor events! From celebrating Veterans Day to holiday shopping, I hope to see you out and about enjoying our beautiful city.

Surprise SciTech Festival will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 9 a.m. until noon in the courtyard at Surprise City Hall, located at 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza. This event explores the wonders of Science,Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs with educational demonstrations, science experiments and more. This is a free community event.

The Veterans Reflection Circle Dedication will be held on Monday, November 11 at 8 a.m. outside the north entrance of the Northwest Regional Library, 16089 N. Bullard Avenue. The Veterans Reflection Circle is an outdoor memorial in honor of late Surprise resident, Brian Mancini, who spent his life serving his country and helping other wounded veterans find help and healing.

Following the dedication, the annual Veterans Day Parade will take place at 10 a.m. The parade travels along Bullard Avenue between Paradise Lane and Tierra Buena Lane.

Sunday in the Park Food Truck Festivals continue this month on Sunday, November 17 at Mark Coronado Park, 15960 N. Bullard Ave. There will be live music, delicious food trucks, yard games and much more. Don’t forget to bring your blanket or chairs and enjoy the evening. You are welcome to bring your dogs as long as they are on leashes.

The Surprise Arts Festival returns to the city just in time for holiday shopping. This festival will bring selected fine arts and crafts, gourmet food trucks, wine and beer gardens, confectionary booths, art demonstrations and live entertainment to Mark Coronado Park, 15960 N. Bullard Ave, on Friday, November 29 – Sunday, December 1 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Artisan Treasures Holiday Affair will take place at the height of the holiday shopping. The craft show is scheduled for November 30 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Surprise Stadium, 15960 N. Bullard Ave. There will be a selection of fine arts and crafts, gourmet food trucks, wine and beer gardens, confectionary booths and much more. Parking and admission are free.

Please note that all city offices will be closed on November 11 in honor of Veterans Day, as well as November 28 and 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

As our city continues to grow, we will encounter road work and traffic issues. The City of Surprise is constantly working with utility companies and construction crews to keep traffic inconveniences to a minimum. We appreciate your patience and remind everyone to Drive Wise, Surprise.

Lastly, I would like to invite all of my residents to attend one of my monthly chats. I meet the second Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Arizona Traditions Ceramics Room. Please ask the gate guard for directions upon arrival. Additionally, I meet the fourth Tuesday of each month in the Sun City Grand Palm Center-Mediterranean Room (19726 N. Remington Dr.) at 10 a.m. Please stop by and hear about what’s going on and discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
