City Council selects Aly Cline as Vice Mayor

The Surprise City Council selected District 2 Councilmember Aly Cline to serve as Vice Mayor at their regular meeting Tuesday night.

Per city code, City Council must select a Vice Mayor to serve on an annual basis no later than January 30. The Vice Mayor acts on behalf of the Mayor in the event of absence.

Cline was elected to City Council in August 2020 to serve a four-year term beginning January 2021. Her term expires December 31, 2024.

Cline serves on the City Council Subcommittees for Boards and Commissions Nominations (Chair), Tourism Fund and Performance Evaluation. She also serves on the Maricopa Association of Government (MAG) Human Services and Community Initiatives Committee.

Cline has volunteered more than 20,000 hours within the City of Surprise, including as President of Friends of the Surprise Libraries, a nonprofit organization that supports local teachers through a grant program focused on literacy, reading and special education programs.

Before retiring in 2008, she worked for 35 years in the financial services industry, managing staff and developing training programs for management and staff.

Cline has a Certificate in Business Management from UCLA.
