Friends of the Surprise Libraries Ribbon Cutting
Friday, October 8, Mayor Hall and Council Members Cline, Judd, and Hastings joined the Friends of the Surprise Libraries for a ribbon cutting! Joanne Heim, Board Member of Friends of the Surprise Libraries, hosted the ribbon cutting in honor of their newly renovated area at the Northwest Regional Library, 16089 N. Bullard Ave. Congratulations on your next chapter!
West Nile Virus
Maricopa County Vector Control has established a West Nile virus hotline. Residents may call 602.506.0700 and select from the following menu:
- Option 1: Report stagnant water, a green pool, mosquito problems or receive fogging notifications.
- Option 2: Mosquito related disease and info/assistance
- Option 3: Current ground fogging schedule
- Option 4: Info on mosquito eating fish or reach the Environmental Services Dept.

The Learning Experience
On September 29, myself along with Mayor Hall and Council Members Chris Judd and Ken Remley, joined The Learning Experience for a Ribbon Cutting! Located at 15351 W. Cactus Rd., the Learning Experience Director Heather Turner and Asst. Director Carrie Mikeworth held the ceremony in honor of their Grand Opening. Welcome to Surprise!
Surprise Veterans Day Parade
The City of Surprise is hosting its 5th Annual Veterans Day Parade to honor those who have bravely served our country. The parade will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 11, and will run along Bullard Avenue between Paradise and Tierra Buena lanes.
Sunday in the Park
Sunday in the Park returns to Mark Coronado Park this fall! Join us on November 7 from 3 – 7 p.m. for live music, various food trucks, an assortment of beer and wine, and family-friendly entertainment such as bounce houses, face painting, a trackless train, and more! Mobile Home Depot Ribbon Cutting
On Wednesday, October 13, I joined Mayor Hall and Council Member Ken Remley for the Mobile Home Depot ribbon cutting! District Manager Denis Godin hosted the ceremony in honor of Mobile Home Depot opening in Spring of 2021, located at 13033 W Grand Ave, Surprise, AZ 85374. 2021 Surprise SciTech Festival
Have fun with science and technology at the Surprise SciTech Festival on November 6, presented by the City of Surprise! This FREE, fun-filled educational event features interactive science, technology, engineering, art and math exhibits and demonstrations. It’s all happening 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Surprise City Hall Courtyard, 16000 N. Civic Center Plz. For more information on the event, please visit surpriseaz.gov/scitech.
Care and Share Expo
The 2nd Annual Care & Share Expo will be held on Saturday, November 13. This year’s all-ages event will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Surprise City Hall 1st Floor Parking Garage, 16000 N. Civic Center Plz. This community event creates connections to human service organizations as well as disability, veteran, and health resources. This free event is a one-stop source for accessing programs and services that promote health, financial growth, and self-empowerment. Plus, there will be fun for the entire family! Woman of the Year
On October 5, I attended the West Valley Women Networking Association’s 2021 Woman of the Year Celebration. This year’s Woman of the year was Judge Elizabeth Finn, of Glendale, AZ. Businesswomen and women from all walks of life are members of West Valley Women Networking Association, and join West Valley Women for career and personal development at monthly meetings.
The organization endeavors to promote professional women who desire to be successful and connect with the community. Members share information, ideas and contacts. Networking at meetings engages members who establish friendships, promote advocacy, share information and opportunities.
Best of the West
On Thursday, October 21, along with Mayor and Council, I attended the Best of the West Awards dinner, which was held at State Farm Stadium. This event, hosted by WESTMARC, recognizes exceptional contributions to the image, lifestyle and economy here in the West Valley. This Awards Dinner is the signature event of the West Valley with a rich history of celebrating outstanding accomplishments and impacts to quality of life, economic development, innovation and leadership.
G.A.I.N Night
Saturday, October 23, I attended this family-friendly event at Mark Coronado Park, which brought the community together! It was a great turnout with trick or treating, a gaming trailer and laser tag, live music, Chick-Fil-A hot air balloon, and public safety displays. Thank you Surprise Police Department and Parks and Recreation for hosting such a wonderful event!
Hyundai Grand Re-Opening
Thursday, October 21, I joined Mayor Hall, Councilmember Ken Remley and Ken Garff Hyundai for a ribbon cutting! General Manager Peter Pasiakos hosted the ceremony in honor of the grand re-opening of the dealership located at 12925 N. Autoshow Ave. Ken Garff Hyundai also presented Mayor with 300 Hygiene Kits to hand out at the Surprise Care+Share Expo being held on November 13 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Just Be Youtiful Women’s Boutique
Monday, October 25, Mayor Hall, Council Member Chris Judd and I joined Just Be Youtiful Boutique for a ribbon cutting! Owner Kym Stutzman hosted the ceremony in honor of Just Be Youtiful Boutique’s grand opening, located at 15332 W. Bell Rd. Suite #135! Thank you for choosing Surprise!
Dependent Scholarship Winners
The City would like to recognize Alexis Klippel and Alina Bozhko as the recipients of the 2021 City of Surprise Scholarship Awards! The first place award of $3,000 will go to Alexis, the daughter of Randy Rody (Police Department). The second place award of $1,500 will go to Alina, the daughter of Leonid Bozhko (Information Technology). Congratulations to both winners!

Dysart School Parks Ribbon Cutting
On Friday, October 29, the Dysart School District hosted a ribbon cutting event, in coordination with the City, to announce the opening of their elementary school fields and playgrounds in Surprise to the public, after school hours and on weekends. It was great to be there to celebrate with Mayor Hall and other members of council.
Block Party Trailer
The City of Surprise is committed to building quality neighborhoods, and what better way to get to know your neighbors than by throwing a party! The Neighborhood Services Division offers free rentals of its Block Party Trailer. The trailer comes equipped with everything you will need to get your Block Party started, including:
- Tables and Chairs
- PA system and music
- Generator
- Canopy tents
- Coolers
- Sports equipment
- Games
- City information
City staff will deliver the trailer and be present during the event. You can also receive a Block Party Information Packet, which includes flyers and posters to help spread the word about your party. We’ll even help cover costs for refreshments and a bouncy house (the inflatable domes that children love to jump around in) or similar family-friendly entertainment! Submit receipts for up to $150 to help pay for local merchants’ select party amenities, including family entertainment. To book the block party trailer, go to surpriseaz.gov/blockparty.

Meet & Greet
My monthly Meet and Greet will be 2 p.m., November 12 at Arizona Traditions in the ballroom, 17221 N. Citrus Rd. and 6 p.m. on November 23 at Sun City Grand in the Pima Room, 19781 N. Remington Dr. I look forward to discussing the latest city news and answering any questions you have.
City Council Meetings
